To A Lifetime of Meaningful Encounters celebrated people who, like Henri Matisse, were born in Le Cateau-Cambresis. The small town in northern France is also the site of the Matisse Museum which displays artworks by Matisse and artifacts from his life. We interviewed a selection of local people who were born in Le Cateau and then worked with them to curate and install personal museums inside the Matisse Museum. The personal museums displayed meaningful and significant objects from the participant’s lives. Also part of the exhibition was our documentary film, He Came into the World in Le Cateau. Like Me. The film depict the daily life of the people who, like Matisse, were born in Le Cateau-Cambresis. The film was installed in a covered market next to the Matisse Museum which opened onto the village square.

This project was made in collaboration with Molly Sherman and Harrell Fletcher.
